GALLERY: Horses were saddled up for a successful 52nd Gorefield show

Horses galore, which are the main stay of the popular family attraction, were gathered at the playing fields in Wolf Lane, which kicked off with an expanded pony show.

The show is now a qualifier for the British Show Pony Society and Ponies Association (UK).

The ponies were closely followed by their larger relatives – the heavy horses, Shires, Percherons and Suffolk Punch – which were exhibited in the main ring.

David Newling, one of the event organisers, said: “We had a very good day. Tbe weather was lovely and it was a really busy turn out.

“The shire horses are a particularly marvellous spectacle. You cant get as close to them anywhere else in the country. At this event you can get really up close when they are in the arena which is what people enjoy.”

Also at the day was a falconry display in the main ring courtesy of Mike Willis and his team, and new for this year were climbing walls, suitable for all ages and abilities.

There was a bouncy castle, swing boats, a teacup ride and athletic competitions with cash prizes.

Throughout the day there was a parade of classic and vintage cars and tractors, carriage driving, fancy dress and novelty dog classes.

In the showground there was also a range of side shows and country stalls, along with food and refreshments.

Best Shire in Show was won by Wrangle Emily exhibited by Mick Bray from Wrangle near Boston.

Best Percheron in Show was won by Hales Matilda exhibited by Mr and Mrs Fuller.

Best Suffolk in Show was a Suffolk Filly exhibited by Mr and Mrs L Hoskins.

The Turnout Class (horse in harness with a wagon) was won by Paul Smith.
