HUNDREDS of people embraced the festive spirit in Wisbech on Friday night as they gathered to watch the town’s Christmas lights switch-on.
Town mayor, Councillor Jonathan Farmer, gave a rousing speech to the crowds before switching the lights on and illuminating Wisbech Market Place.
Christmas lights along the River Nene will also shine brightly throughout December with a 25ft tree in the town centre providing more festive cheer.
A host of events were also on offer to celebrate the occasion with the town council providing sweets for children courtesy of Asda, which had a stall on the night.
Heart Radio and Wisbech Youth Council were just two more groups which hosted stalls during the switch-on while crowds enjoyed fairground rides and music from Chatteris Town Band.
