A MARCH charity shop was ransacked twice in the space of a week.
Scope, on Broad Street, was broken in to between 5pm on Saturday February 2 and Monday February 4, and then again on Friday night.
The culprits climbed over the back gates and smashed the first floor windows to gain entry to the building before leaving a trail of destruction in their wake.
A small amount of cash was stolen on each occasion. Security has been stepped up.
Louise Bryan, shop manager, said: “Considering this is a disability charity and a lot of my volunteers have disabilities explaining to them why someone would do this has been hard.
“That is what has angered me the most. There is no logical reason why anyone would do this.”
The shop was in such a poor state following the second break-in that it was unable to open until 12noon last Saturday, with the clear up lasting well into the afternoon.
Shopworkers launched a successful clothes appeal a couple of weeks ago which had led to a substantial increase in donations.
A police spokesman said: “To target a charity is a particularly low act and I would urge anyone with any information to call police.”
Anyone with any information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
