Paralympic swimmer Fran Williamson opened the 2012 Soham Pumpkin Fair on Saturday as more than a thousand people came to take part and enjoy the show at Great Fen road.

The theme for the 38th fair was “Diamonds and Medals” to pay tribute to the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, the London Olympics and the Paralympics.

Events included a visit by Mr Pumpkin, displays by Soham Fenlander Majorettes, Soham primary schools, and the Ely Youth Choir alongside morris dancers, ferret racing, bygones and vintage vehicles.

BBC Radio Cambridgeshire’s Gardeners Question Time was hosted from the event by Chris South as local growers got their chance to air their views on the radio.

All money raised from the event will go to three local organisations: Molyn Care, Ely Youth Care and Soham Ladybugs Playgroup.
