NEALE Wade Community College’s Year 11 catering students cooked lunch yesterday for various March companies with links to the school as part of their GCSE assessment.

Under the watchful eye of head chef Jordi Scott-Henson, the pupils prepared a diverse menu of nine main courses and eight desserts.

Diners were treated to a wide variety of dishes from chicken casserole to curry, pizza to lasagna.

If that was not enough, the pupils put together a tasty selection of desserts, including chocolate brownies, lemon meringue pie and sticky toffee pudding.

The catering students got to the kitchen at 9am and as well as cooking the meals, they were responsible for decorating the tables, serving the food and washing up.

Zoe Clark, hospitality and catering teacher, said: “I think the pupils have done really well. This day has been about testing their customer service and team work.

“You have to remember the pupils have made everything from scratch. With the horsemeat scandal going on it’s good to teach them these skills.”

Workers from Fenmarc and QV Foods attended the lunch and were full of praise for the pupils’ efforts.

Andrew Richards, of Fenmarc, said: “It has been a really fantastic meal. I’ve had a Cornish pasty, chips, gravy and I’m about to tuck into a lemon meringue pie.

“It has been spectacular.”
