The annual Wisbech Rose Fair opened with a fun filled day today.
St Peter and St Paul’s Church was filled with beautiful flower displays for visitors to enjoy.
The theme for this year’s displays is I Know A Place and interpretations include Flanders Fields, a tribute to the 100 year anniversary of the First World War, and Africa.
The shield for the best window display was awarded to The Norfolk Hospice.
Mave Pett, shop volunteer at the Norfolk Hospice, said: “We all had a staff discussion and looked on the internet for ideas.
“We decided on the royal wedding theme because it’s current and everybody knows about it, even if they don’t want to.”
The Mayor of Wisbech, Councillor Michael Hill, said: “I’ve really enjoyed walking around today. I judged the window displays in the charity shops and there was only one point between the winner and runner up this year.”
Wisbech Art Club also held an art exhibition: Wisbech Standard Editor John Elworthy had been invited to Fridya’s opening to judge the entries for this year’s competition.
First place was awarded to Geoff DeRoux for his painting Contented Pig, second place to Lila Konat for Dishes and third place to Gill Repper for Festival in Venice.
Gill also won the Linda Savill award for best flower painting for her piece, Where’s the Path.
The public were able to look around various stalls run by local businesses, groups or charities and listen to live music from the likes of Bondy.
Children from the Orchards Primary School also performed a dance later on in the day.
