RESIDENTS were joined by pets and politicians as they took to the streets of Doddington to honour British servicemen.

NE Cambs MP Steve Barclay was the guest of honour for the village’s third ‘Mini March for Honour’ which was organised by 15-year-olds Tamar Knott and Louise Youles.

Tamar’s mother Paula had masterminded the first two marches but, with her daughter looking for volunteering opportunities as part of her Duke of Edinburgh Award, she passed on this year’s duties.

The teenager followed in her mother’s fund-raising footsteps as 80 people attended Saturday’s event, raising more than 260 for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

Father Ian Knott said: “It was another success and it really has become an annual event.

“Obviously Paula has still been the taxi driver but Tamar and Louise worked very hard! They’ve done a great job.”

Walkers followed a one-mile route through the village which led them past the golden post box, painted after sprinter Jonnie Peacock’s heroics in the London 2012 Paralympics.

Many of the participants brought their dogs along for the march, which finished with a raffle at The George pub.

The event drew praise from Mr Barclay, who said on Twitter: “Great job by 15-year-olds Tamar Knott and Louise Youles organising Doddington mini march for The Poppy Appeal. Fun and for a good cause.”
