A BIG Jubilee picnic lunch got reduced to a much smaller occasion as rain forced organisers to move into St Peter’s Church Hall, March, on Sunday.
But there was a still a hardy and hearty crowd to enjoy their lunch as the town begun its Jubilee celebrations.
Elsewhere regulars at the Cock postponed their fun day till Monday and a crowd of 1,000 witnessed the lighting of the beacon in West End Park.
Councillor Jan French, the mayor, said she had been delighted to support town events for the Jubilee and has been busy visiting all local schools, too, to hand out Jubilee medals to each child.
She said new railings in Elwyn Road – commissioned as part of the Jubilee celebrations- would be unveiled shortly.
