A COMMUNITY came together last night united in grief – and to celebrate- the life of their friend, relative and mother of four Sarah Gibbs killed in a road accident on Sunday.

In and around her High Barns Park home in Ely balloons were released as stunned friends and family members joined to commemorate her life.

Sarah, 35, was a front seat passenger in a Fiesta which was involved in an accident on the A142 Witchford by pass. She died at the scene.

Tonight, as the police inquiry into the accident continued, this was an early picture taken as neighbours came out in force to mourn her passing.

Throughout the day tributes had been paid to the hard working mum, particularly from Sue Freestone, head of King’s, Ely, where Sarah had worked as a cleaner.

“King’s Ely is a school in which community means something,” said Ms Freestone.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss to our community of Sarah who was a warm, cheerful, giving person and a valued member of our team.

“Our hearts go out to Glynn, Stephen, Danny, Connor and Lily. They are in our thoughts and prayers.”

Friends of Sarah staged the memorial event- and invited the Ely Standard to share in the poignant and heart rending occasion.

Sarah’s son, Danny, 15, said: “I would like to thank my mum for everything that she did for me and the family. She has always been there for me and would have done anything for me.

“She was a friend to everyone, even after they had had arguments, and was always there to help out when people were in need.”

Sarah’s best friend Sabrina Balfe, 31, said: “She was a wonderful person, well known by everyone in the area. She had a massive heart and would have done anything for anybody.

“She always looked on things positively and was always there to help out.”

Family friend Dean Grogan, 15, said: “Every day after school I used to go round and she would have some dinner plated up for me.

“She helped so many people and was a lovely woman. Anything I ever needed she would have it there for me.”

Dozens of messages of condolence have been left at the family home and numbed neighbours say the tragedy has affected them deeply.

Members of Sarah’s family were among those injured in Sunday’s accident.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Pc Jason Porter said: “I would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or saw either vehicle in the moments leading up to the collision.”
