POLICE are appealing for help tracing a group of youths involved in an assault and theft in Whittlesey.

It happened at about 1am on Sunday October 15 as two youths walked down High Causeway and came across a group of between 15 and 20 youths.

An altercation occurred and one of the group grabbed one of the men, a 25-year-old from London, and punched him in the face before stealing his MP3 player. His friend, a 15-year-old boy from London, tried to stop the assault and was punched three times in the chest. Both then ran away from the group. They suffered minor injuries.

The group members are described as white and aged between 14 and 17.

Shortly after the assault the same group were seen in the Portland Place area where a mountain bike was stolen. Police are connecting the two incidents.
