Sunset Spin was held outside the New Vision Fitness George Campbell Leisure Centre in March from 6pm to 9pm.

Riders from as far as Grantham, Bristol and Wales joined local enthusiasts to take on three spinning classes during the event, with a spectacular sound and light show and glorious sunset despite the earlier cloudy weather.

The event raised £1,000 for the charity, taking the total amount raised from spinning events at the George Campbell to more than £8,500.

A 12-hour spin-a-thon in January raised more than £5,500 for the cause, and a six-hour event in 2017 raised £2,000.

Saturday’s event was organised by leisure centre manager, Andy Cornwell, and the centre’s spinning instructors Wayne Marshall, Tony Raine and Tracy Raine.

Andy said: “It was a magnificent spectacle, and thoroughly enjoyed by all that took part. We were extremely proud to host it at the George Campbell Centre.”

Crew members from Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue were in attendance to support their fellow firefighters Wayne and Tony, and to help illuminate the event and add some special effects. One of the crew, Liam Siddons, even took part in a ride with his firefighter kit on.

Wayne said: “It is simply amazing to see the community come together to support such a worthy cause, I could not have imagined the positive feedback we received after the event from people urging us to do it all again.

“MAGPAS is funded by the general public and receives no government support at all so it is vital we continue to support the good work these guys do where ever we can.

“We are now busy planning our next events, hopefully an indoor triathlon, The Big Eastern Weekender (TBEW) spinning weekend in Whittlesey with 150 bikes in May next year and another Sunset SPIN, watch this space!”

Volunteers who helped organise the event were thanked as well as Amy Thompson and her husband Darren who provided the sound system, DA Pallets for their donation of £200 and Tony Bird for loaning disco lights and rig.

Thanks were also paid to G’s Fresh Produce who donated a 50 inch TV for the raffle, which was won by George Campbell member, Mick Barber, and Alex Chapman for donating his spinning pro jersey to the raffle.
