1 Who are you?

Darren Macer

2 What do you do?

I am a sixth form student at Neale-Wade Community College, March, getting ready to take my A-level exams. I am also the lead guitar player for a heavy metal band called Untamed, which is based in Peterborough. I have been with the band for about two months after I saw an advertisement for a lead guitar player on a Peterborough music forum. I went for an audition and the other band members, who are in their mid-40s, said the job was mine if I wanted it.

3 Why would people know you?

I live in March and walk everywhere (because I cannot drive). I have also performed gigs in the town with my former band Pattern Of Sin, a band made up of sixth form members at Neale-Wade.

4 On a scale of 1-10 (10 being the highest) how do you rate your sense of humour?

About eight, but I am quite particular about things I laugh at and something would have to be really funny for me to laugh at it.

5 What is your last text message you sent or received?

I have just asked the other guitarist in my band if it is me or him who plays a solo piece in one of our songs because I had forgotten.

6 Give us at least five pet hates.

Cigarettes, Chavs, spiders, butterflies and vodka - and they are just some.

7 Is it time for Britain to abolish the Royal Family?

I think so. I am against them sitting about while other people do everything for them.

8 Are you looking forward to the smoking ban in pubs and why?

Yes. Statistically, passive smokers are harmed more by the second-hand smoke than the smokers are.

9 What is your favourite item of clothing in your wardrobe, and why?

Probably my boots. They are made by New Rocks, a Spanish company. They are very metal looking and very comfortable. They cost £135 and are probably the most expensive thing I have.

10 Where is the capital of the Fens and why?

I do not know. I don't think it should be Wisbech, though, because it is not the most exciting town in the world. It is just the same as March, only slightly bigger.

11 Which TV programme sends you to the off button?

Music talent shows like X-Factor and Pop Idol. I don't think the people on them have much talent as you don't see them ever again. The only reason most people audition for something like that is so they can get on the telly. If you are talented enough to get into the industry you will get picked up by the record companies.

12 If you had £1,000 to blow what would you do with it?

I am going to be really selfish and buy a new guitar amp. It costs nearly £1,500 and I need one to perform.

13 What football result do you look for first and why?

I don't - I can't stand football. In fact I don't like sport.

14 Name a town or country you would never want to return to, and your reasons.

Great Yarmouth, when I went on holiday there with my ex-girlfriend. It was the first time I have ever slept in a caravan and that was not fun, and the place is a bit boring.

15 Who would you most like to sit to on an aeroplane and why?

Bruce Dickinson - and it would probably mean I would be sitting next to him in the cockpit because, besides being the lead singer of Iron Maiden, he is a pilot.

16 Who would you cross the road to avoid?

Someone similar to that Nicki in Big Brother last year. Yes, I was sad enough to watch it and she was over-dramatic throughout the whole thing.

17 What is the worst job you have ever had to do?

I did work at Grunty Fen recycling centre and I had to jump in the skips and find the recyclable items by sifting through the skips.

18 Who was your childhood hero and why?

It would be a toss between Yingwie Malmsteen, a guitarist in his self-named band, because he took pieces by composers like Bach and put them on to guitar; and Adrian Smith, of Iron Maiden, because he is a great guitarist.

19 If you weren't doing your current job, what else might you have chosen?

Music production. I would like to one day mix a CD and make it sound professional. Maybe one day I will.

20 Your claim to fame.

I am featured worldwide at a Dragonforce concert at the Graspop festival in Belgium last year - a camera followed the lead singer of the band throwing a bottle of water into the crowd and it focused on me and my friend who I went with.

21 What is your biggest regret in life?

Not starting to play guitar earlier. I only started five years ago and some of music's biggest names started playing a guitar when they were about six years old. I have got a lot of catching up to do.
