1 Who are you?Darrel Else.2 What do you do?Chairman of Darrel Else Furnishers Ltd, in Leverington Common, Wisbech. Although I am trying to retire and I'm as involved as I used to be.3 Why would people know you?I don't know why people know me because we're really out in the sticks, but we've been established for over 40 years now. We try to look after people when they're here, and make them feel their visit has been worth their while. 4 What is the most interesting that has ever happened to you? When my youngest son was born. I've had a varied life and have done lots of interesting things, but I think that would probably have to be it.5 What do you like most about the Fens? It's home. I have a house in Scotland, which is beautiful, but the Fens is always home.6 Give us at least five pet hates.Number one would have to be business rates. Then there are do-gooders who don't want to work. Speed cameras. I really don't like Italian food, and pasta is revolting - except I should eat it because it's good for me. (For the last he phones his wife Anne for help). I also don't like Tesco, but for a joke my daughter bought me a share as a present.7 What sort of car do you drive?A Range Rover.8 What do you think about people who smoke?I smoke a pipe. But if I do take the wife out, we go to The Crown at Gayton. 10 What is the most money you spent in one day?I sit down and I write an awful lot of cheques some days. The most I spent at once was probably when I bought my father's share of the business in 1980.11 What is the most romantic thing you have ever done?In 1988, for our 25th wedding anniversary I organised a surprise party for my wife. We had all our close friends, and even the bridesmaids were there.12 Would you say you are fashion conscious?Look at me. I'd say not at all.13 What is on your bedside table? Two telephones. I would like to have Viagra, but with a bad heart I am not allowed.14 If you had £100 to give to charity, who would you give it to, and why?Macmillan Nurses or Addenbrooke's Hospital. That hospital was very good with my son when he was ill and the last lot we gave was to them.15 Do you agree with the idea of private education?Very much so. My two eldest grandsons are at Wisbech Grammar School at the moment.16 Name a town or country you would never want to return to.Tunisia. The people there were horrible. They would try and snatch my wife's handbag in the street.17 Who would you least like to sit next to on an aeroplane?Ant and Dec really grate on me. Next to them two on an aeroplane would be a nightmare.18 If you were the Prime Minister, what would you abolish?Business rates, it's a tax before you make a profit.19 What is the worst job you have ever had to do?I had to identify my son when he was killed on a car accident 13 years ago.20 Who do you admire most, and why?My late father.
