I nearly said, meeting Tony Blair. 5 What do you like most about the Fens?I think the sort of laid back attitude most of the Fenlanders have. Our lifestyle really. We're not part of the rat race, removed from that slightly.6 Give us at least five pet hates.I certainly do not like pople smoking in restaurants; the pollution created by the smell from the Nestle plant; probably the poor attitude of the local authority towards local people. 7 What sort of car do you drive?Pegeout 4058 What do you think about people who smoke?Personally if people wish to do so it's their choice. However, I would rather not in front of me or family when eating.9 What is your favourite Fenland restaurant/pub?Got to be Weatherspoons - good family pub. 10 What is the most money you spent in one day?Paper money, when I bought my house. Real money? Possibly when I bought my last car about six years ago. 11 What is the most romantic thing you have ever done?I am not renowned for being romantic, as my wife will tell you. When I would hope so, it's my wife's 40th birthday this year.12 Would you say you are fashion conscious?In my own way, I would hope so. Favourite item of clothing? I do like to get suited and booted.13 What is on your bedside table?A picture of my wife, a copy of Bread on the Waters (history of the TGWU, 1922-2000) and it's by Dr John Fisher. 14 If you had £100 to give to charity, who would you give it to, and why?I think I would give to Macmillan Cancer, purely and simply because my father-in-law lost his second wife to cancer.15 Do you agree with the idea of private education?No. I believe you should not be able to buy yourself an education. I believe in the same education and opportunities for all - and definitely not selection by how rich you are.16 Name a town or country you would never want to return to.It would have to be a town, because I'm not that well travelled. It would be in this country. Scarborough.17 Who would you least like to sit next to on an aeroplane?Any member of the Royal Family. I don't believe they are in touch with reality and it would be difficult not to mention that.18 If you were the Prime Minister, what would you abolish?The potential to move the Isle College to March. It should stay in Wisbech because I think Wisbech has more of a need for it. 19 What is the worst job you have ever had to do?Any form of decorating20 Which person do you admire the most, and why?My wife, for putting up with me for the past 15 years 21 Your claim to fame?Apart from being one of the main opponents of the Nestle pollution campaign, I used to play football for my local works team, Smedleys. I was captain at the time. We were only the second team ever to win the treble, of the old Isle League, Minor Cup and Division 2 knockout cup. 22 What would you most like to be remembered for?To be remembered with pride at my workplace, and with my family as someone who cared about issues, locally, at home and work.
