VISITORS travelling into Haddenham in the coming weeks can expect to see a rather large addition to the village vista after a 10metre tall sculpture popped up almost overnight.
Dubbed the ‘Old Man of Northy Hill’, the sculpture of a winged man is reminiscent of the famous Angel of the North and cuts an imposing figure on the hill as visitors drive into the village.
The sculpture is the brainchild of Haddenham farmer Robert Norman, who said: “I wanted to do something different to mark the Diamond Jubilee and the special essence of Haddeham and Aldreth, we have lots going on in the next few weeks thanks to a thriving community spirit.”
The ‘Old Man’ is made from orchard ladders, rope and “bits and bobs” from around Mr Norman’s farmyard and took a group of volunteers a few days to prepare and install on top of the hill.
After receiving a star billing for the village’s Blossoms and Bygones festival on Sunday, the sculpture is set to remain in place for the upcoming Diamond Jubilee celebrations, which will continue until June.
