Young pupils demonstrated how their hard work turned old into new at the motorsports department of the Isle campus of The College of West Anglia.
The go-kart restoration project involved a dozen pupils from the Thomas Clarkson Academy in Wisbech and Cromwell Community College, Chatteris.
The youngsters are released from their schools for one day a week to attend a PEO level 1 engineering course at the college.
As part of the second year they have spent around 30 weeks restoring old and unusable Honda engine go karts into gleaming vehicles capable of being raced.
It was the second year the 14-16 year olds had attended the Isle campus where motorsport lecturer JP Latham created the go-kart project in order to challenge the pupil’s skills learned on their course.
Students welcomed their parents and guardians and stakeholders to the Isle campus to see their two finished karts.
Pupils Ryan Killingworth, Agnius Petrusions and Matthew Sutton, all 16, explained what they had achieved during a presentation of their work.
Some of the pupils involved in the project are already looking to take up full-time courses at the campus.
The pupils were taken to the Wild Tracks circuit, near Newmarket, to see the karts in action.
