GREEN-FINGERED enthusiasts will have the chance to show off their finest home-grown produce today at an increasingly popular Whittlesey show.

Growers proudly displayed their giant marrows, leeks and beautiful flower displays at last September’s Whittlesey Allotments and Garden Society event.

Following on from the show’s debut success last year the group are holding their second autumn event today.

People can compete in a wide-range of categories including best vegetable, best preserves and pickles, largest pumpkin and funniest vegetable. A junior section will also be competed for.

Organisers Jacquie and Martin Baldrey said: “The idea to hold the event was a little seed which has grown.

“We nurtured and watered it and it flourished from there into a big blooming success. We love to bring something back into the town and encourage people - especially youngsters - to continue to grow their own produce.”

“We had a great turnout last year and we’re hoping for even better event this time round.”

A raffle will be held, with a number of gifts and prizes being donated by Whittlesey businesses.

Mr and Mrs Baldrey paid special thanks to Mike and Rosie and their colleagues at Westfield Nurseries for once again sponsoring the event.

The show begins at noon at the scout hut in Inhams Road, Whittlesey. Entry costs 1.
