Burrowmoor Primary School’s Gardening Club have been celebrating success at the Abbots Ripton Hall garden show.

After hearing about their grub in a tub competition for youth groups and organisations, the club was inspired to create a rainbow of food to grow and present at the show.

Using recycled coffee bags from a local supplier, the children planned which produce they wanted to grow to form their rainbow, finally deciding on red tomatoes, golden sunrise orange tomatoes, electric daisies, tomatillo, blueberries and purple sprouting brocolli.

They carefully grew each plant from a seedling before planting them into their containers.

After presenting their display to the judges at the show, the children were delighted to receive a “highly commended” for their hard work, with the judges being particularly impressed with the coffee bag planters and the idea of creating a rainbow, as well as their unusual produce.
