A green team from a local Fen business has got involved with gardening on the grounds of the National Trust’s Peckover House in Wisbech as part of a pledge to volunteer on local projects.
CUB (UK) Ltd, an energy consultancy in March, established their Green Team to help charities and non-profit organisations locally.
The team, made up of staff across the business, planted elm, oak and walnut trees around the Peckover estate and along Harecroft Road.
Holly Redden, SME account manager at CUB said: “It’s great to get out of the office and in the open fresh air, working on fantastic projects for charities like the National Trust.
“To plant trees is an act for future generations to enjoy – one of my favourite sayings is ‘the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, the second best time is now’ which is exactly what we have achieved.”
The Peckover House gardening team of Allison Napier, Jenny Windsor and Janet Crockford, picked out suitable spots and instructed the Green Team on how to plant the trees.
Green Team coordinator, Derrick Hart, said: “As a local business, the idea was to build our relationships within the community, getting involved with opportunities around the area that benefit the team dynamics, as well as the local area.”
Upcoming Peckover House events include Bee Weekend Saturday June 28 and 29 from noon to 4pm with demonstrations and introductions to beekeeping.
There is Music for a Summer Evening, with The Essex Blues Brothers, so bring your picnic and blankets for an evening of live music.
