A POTATO farm has planted a tree as a “lasting legacy” for its Green Team.
QV Foods at Glenthorn, in Whittlesey Road, which employs more than 200 people, set up the team in 2011 to try and find new ways it could save energy across the company.
Already it has recycled more cans, plastic cups and packaging by providing separate bins and has set up a cycle to work scheme to encourage workers to leave their cars at home and reduce their carbon footprint.
The team meets every month to discuss new energy-saving ideas and hopes to use its vast roof space to collect rain water for recycling, as well as revisit proposals for solar panels and wind turbines.
“The sapling was brought from proceeds from recycling tin cans,” QV Foods’ Andrew Larham said.
