EMILY Syred, a young leader with 4th March Brownie Pack and a member of 3rd Wisbech senior section, travelled to the Netherlands as part of a selected group of 12 girls from the Anglia region attending NICES 2006, an international jamboree.

In order to qualify for attendance at the jamboree, 14-year-old Emily, pictured, attended two selection processes, held in Cambridge and London.

She was chosen on her ability to work as a member of the team, her leadership skills, ability to show initiative, flexibility and adaptability, communications skills, and camping experience.

The jamboree lasted for two weeks and the girls spent two days in Brussels, as well as taking part in various water activities. The campsite was in Nederweert, a small town in the south of Holland.

Before she left on the trip, an excited Emily, of Marina Drive, March, said she was most looking forward to meeting the Guides and Scouts from the 11 other nations that were taking part.
