Handmade poppies symbolise Wimblington soldiers who lost their lives during conflict

Poppies made out of Lego, cake, paper, felt and rocks symbolising Wimblington soldiers who lost their lives were put on display.

Wimblington Parish Council hosted the poppy gathering weekend which saw the handmade creations from Thomas Eaton School children make a mock Tower of London display.

“We had poppies made from Lego, cake, paper and a selection of rocks painted to remember each Wimblington soldier who fell in either the First or Second World War,” said Joanne Rose.

“Local groups also clubbed together and made displays and knitted poppies.”

Children were also treated to stories of the role of animals during the war on Friday (November 2).

Daisy the donkey paid a visit and they learned about the significance of the purple poppy.

The traditional red poppy has for generations been a sign of respect for people lost in military conflict but the purple poppy is worn to remember the millions of animals killed in human wars.
