CELEBRITY chef Jamie Oliver has been on a mission to make school dinners healthy, but back in 1992 youngsters at Ramnoth School, Wisbech, were already tucking into fresh fruit and vegetables.

Barbara Beresford prepared about 100 meals each day helped by Jane Briston. She said: "We use as much fresh fruit and vegetables as possible and even make our own bread. The children have a good choice and I think it is good value."

That year also saw the first television advertising of school meals with a 30-second commercial with catchy music aiming to convince youngsters and their parents that school meals were nutritious, tasty and fun to eat.
