A group of children from Fenland were ‘at the heart of health’ earlier this week as they took part in a range of activities for World Heart Day, including a heart dissection!
The visit welcomed 48 year six children - 33 from Lionel Walden and 15 from Benwick – who were then split into two groups of 24.
Children were given a tour of the school in the morning, before learning about the art of the heart and the history of medicine before lunch time.
But the main attraction of the day was the heart dissection where pupils weren’t afraid to get stuck in.
After the dissection and a lunch break, students took part in some physical exercise in the sports hall.
Jackie Harding, learning resource centre manager at Cromwell Community College, said: “The primary school teachers that came over with their Year 6 were very impressed with the day, and said that all of the children had a fantastic experience in Cromwell.
“The Art department were overwhelmed with the designs that the children came up with for their clay heart work,” she added.
The hearts are to be placed in the kiln in Cromwell and transported to the primary schools next week ahead of an art lesson where Year 6 can decorate their designs.
