Sharon Critchell wont need her memory jogging about how she plans to arrive at her wedding - the 40 year old will be pulling on her training gear and running to her big day.

The mum of two will be pulling on her training kit along with the more traditional white veil to run the five miles from her home in Whittlesey to the wedding venue at Thorney.

She decided on the unusual mode of transport after her husband to-be, electrical engineer Chris Hodgkin, surprised her by proposing during the Great Eastern Run last year at Peterborough.

“Keeping fit is a passion for both of us,” said special needs worker Ms Critchell. “We met at Thorney Running Club but also went to Andy Harding’s fitness camps where he split us into teams headed up by me on the ladies team and Chris on the men’s team.

“We became competitive in the training as a bit of a joke really and we got together through that.

“Last year I finished the Great Eastern Run first and ran back to egg Chris on. When he saw me he stopped and pulled a ring out and proposed. It was totally out of the blue. It was fantastic. I was more concerned about him carrying on running though so he didn’t spoil his time.

“It just made sense to carry on the running and fitness theme so decided to run to our wedding.”

Ms Critchell will be running to the Rose and Crown at Thorney in red running kit.

After a drink she plans to change into white running kit and wedding veil for the ceremony at the Duke of Bedford Hall on August 16.

“It is second time round for both of us. Arriving like this just seemed the natural thing to do,” said Ms Critchell.

Joining her will be couple’s best man Mark Louth.
