A homeowner gave chase after disturbing two knife wielding burglars and, helped by passers by, stopped both men and held them until police arrested.

The burglary happened just before 10pm on Thursday and police say two men, aged 25 and 27, are being held at Kings Lynn custody centre.

The victim, who was at home with his wife and young child, disarmed both men as they fled from his home in Nene Quay, Wisbech. The burglars made off with a children’s bag which has been recovered.

Police responded to a 999 call and officers arrived soon after to arrest both suspects who were being detained by both the victim and neighbours.

A police source said a dedicated robbery squad had been on duty recently in Wisbech after a rise in the number of household burglaries. A knife has been recovered from the scene.

Both men were expected to be charged today and to appear before magistrates.
