Charges have been dropped against a March take away owner who was accused of sexually assaulting a young girl in 2003 in Harpenden.

The Crown Prosecution Service made the decision after two trials in which both sets of jurors failed to come to a decision on allegations made against Abu Sayeed.

Sayeed, of Robingoodfellows Lane, was charged with six counts that are alleged to have happened 14 years ago, between June 2003 and April 2004.

The second jury rose on Thursday October 19 but by Tuesday 24 had still not come to a decision.

The prosecution team had seven days to review the case and this week decided to drop the charges.

Sayeed appeared before Judge Jonathan Carroll at St Albans Crown Court.
