Homes and charities may be forced to pay the council to have racist or offensive graffiti removed from their premises at the first time of asking.
At present, Fenland District Council provides first time with a free graffiti removal service, but councillors could introduce a £12.50 fee to cover the cost of removal chemicals.
On subsequent occasions, homes and charities will be expected to pay £50 to cover the costs of materials and labour.
Businesses will be charged £50 per hour to remove or treat graffiti at their premises.
Over the past year, the council’s graffiti removal service’s cleansing team have responded to 145 reports of graffiti.
The proposals will be considered by FDC’s Overview and Scrutiny Committee on Monday January 13.
Corporate Director and Chief Finance Officer Rob Bridge said: “Graffiti removed chemicals are expensive and this charge is intended to recover a proportion of their expenditure.”
Other fee changes which will be considered at the meeting:
- A five per cent increase in statutory harbour dues and wharfage dues at Wisbech Port.
- A five per cent increase in fees at Wisbech Yacht Harbour.
- A just less than three per cent increase in rental rates at South Fens and The Boathouse.
- A short notice fee of £52.50 for internments arrangements required with less than two working days.
- An 11.1 per cent increase in the price of the taxi drivers licence (Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Licence).
