MARTIN Ellis pleaded his innocence to two firearms charges when he appeared before Cambridge Crown Court on Friday.
Ellis, owner of the Griffin Hotel in March, is faced with one charge of possessing a firearm, a TX200 air rifle, without a certificate on April 2, 2006.
He later pleaded his innocence to possessing ammunition without the certificate on the same date. Both charges contravene Section 1 of the Firearms Act.
The court heard how Ellis was in possession of an air rifle that did not require a firearm certificate on April 2.
The statement also said that somebody else had bought some ammunition and Ellis was not aware that he was in possession.
Ellis will be back at Cambridge Crown Court on January 5 for a hearing to determine whether a trial is necessary and, if it is, when it will take place. He has been released on unconditional bail until that date.
