AFTER a spate of burglaries over one night in the Chatteris area, police are warning householders to ensure they lock their doors before going to bed.

The incidents all took place during the night of Tuesday, April 17/Wednesday, April 18.

Someone entered a house on Whitemill Road between midnight and 6.55am on Wednesday and stole a mobile phone, car keys, a wallet and half a packet of cigarettes.

Between midnight and 5.55am on Wednesday a house in nearby Westbourne Road was entered and a handbag, van keys, a laptop computer and charger were stolen.

A third house was entered between 11pm on Tuesday and 7am next morning and several mobile phones, a PSP computer game, and a school bag were taken.

Pc Steve Tilsley said: "All householders should ensure their front and rear doors, and any gates, are locked at night.

"It appears that the offender has simply walked into homes and taken valuable items easily to hand. Things like mobile phones, car keys and purses are easy, potentially valuable things to take and so ensuring these are not sat within easy reach of the door at night is important.

"If anyone can recall seeing or hearing anything during Tuesday night, please get in touch as it may be important to the investigation."
