Fenland District Council has approved plans for new homes in the village of Wimblington.

The upcoming development, on a nine-acre site off March Road, will be known as Primrose Grove and will provide 88 new homes.

After acquiring the land last year, the homebuilder submitted a reserved matters application for the scheme to the council in May 2022 and this was given the green light at planning committee on February 8.

The development will include 66 two, three and four-bedroom houses for private sale, alongside 22 affordable homes available for local people through low-cost rent or shared ownership.

Bellway will also provide landscaped public open space and a children’s play area, while all the homes at Primrose Grove will come with a private garden.

The housebuilder is preparing to start construction work on site in the coming months. It is estimated that the first of the properties will be released for sale towards the end of this year, with the first completed homes ready spring next year.

Phil Standen, managing director of Bellway Eastern Counties, said: “Primrose Grove will deliver a wide range of homes to create a balanced community, as well as making a significant contribution towards the local housing need.

“The homes have been designed to be consistent with the character of the surrounding area which means the development will blend in seamlessly with the local area.

“The properties will also be well insulated and energy efficient to provide the comfort that buyers are looking for.

“With plans now approved, we are keen to start construction work at the site and we look forward to launching the first properties onto the market later this year.
