Chatteris allotment holders will be showing off the wide variety of vegetables, soft fruit and flowers they grow on their Honeysome Road plots at their first Summer Open Day on Saturday (July 18).

The allotments are a hive of activity and competition is often fierce among some allotment holders who want to grow the biggest and best vegetables.

Others just like to escape to the peace of the Fens, cultivate their crops and then take home deliciously fresh produce.

Anyone considering taking on an allotment and wishing to know about the work involved or simply wishing to know what can be grown, and maybe purchase some fresh vegetables and salad items, is invited along to the Honeysome Road allotments between 2pm an 5pm on July 18.

Members of the Allotments’ Association will be on hand to answer questions and to show off their plots. An added attraction will be a scarecrow competition and refreshments will be on sale.
