Hundreds of people defied the horrendous weather to make this year’s Wisbech Rock Festival, which was on the brink of being cancelled, a triumph.
The event was due to take place in Wisbech Park but on the morning of the event organisers had to find an alternative location.
Thankfully, the Queen Mary Centre stepped up, allowing the show to go on.
Headline acts Two Tone and Five Ska, alongside Gifford, Catch 22 and Rattleshack, performed at the festival, which was hosted by comedian Drew Cameron and ran until 8pm.
Wisbech Town Council acting clerk Terry Jordan said: “Early on in the morning things were looking quite bleak but we were able to deliver what we wanted, albeit in a different location.”
The call to switch from a waterlogged Wisbech Park to an alternative premises was made at 11am, one hour before the festival’s start time.
Town council members and volunteers frantically called around venues asking if they would be able to stage the event at the shortest of notice.
Mr Jordan said: “From a health and safety perspective we had to find an alternative location.
“The Queen Mary Centre was pretty much an ideal venue. All credit to them for stepping up and to the town council members and volunteers for their hard work. “The festival was so successful it has made us think about staging an indoor event in the future.”
