More than 900 motorists were caught failing to wear a seat belt last month during a police enforcement campaign.
Throughout September officers took part in the Think! road safety campaign which aimed to target seatbelt offences and raise awareness of the dangers of not belting up.
A total of 901 motorists were given fixed penalty notices, compared to 690 during the same period last year.
Roads Policing Sergeant, Chris Huggins said: “Despite our warnings motorists are still risking not only their own lives but the lives of their passengers by failing to wear a seatbelt.
“Putting your seat belt on is not optional – it should be part of your routine before even turning on the ignition.
“The roads can be a dangerous place when the law is not adhered to and if the number of fatalities and casualties on the roads are going to reduce then people must respect the law, it is there for a reason, and that reason is to keep people safe.”
