The RSPCA has appealed for information after a dead dog was found dumped near Peterborough with his throat slit.
Animal collection officer (ACO) Matthew Johnson was called to Holme Road, in Yaxley, on Tuesday (29 March) after a dog walker found the body dumped in the undergrowth by a lay-by.
The brindle and white lurcher had a large injury to its neck, similar to if his throat had been slit.
ACO Johnson said: “It looked as though the dog had been dead for up to 24 hours and there was no blood in the area so I’d guess he was killed elsewhere before being dumped in the bushes.
“His throat had been slit but he had no other injuries and looked to be in a relatively good condition.
“It’s heartbreaking to think what this dog must have been through in his final hours and shocking that someone could kill him in such a gruesome way, before dumping his body like this.
“I’d like to speak to anyone who may recognise the dog, knows where he has come from, or who saw anything suspicious in the area.
“Anyone with information is urged to call our appeal line on 0300 123 8018.”
The dog was not microchipped and had no identification tag or collar.
The RSPCA relies on generous donations from the general public to carry out its vital work. To donate £3 now text HELP to 78866 (texts cost £3 plus standard network rate).
