Wisbech banjo player Sean Moyses is back after a successful concert tour of Japan which included two TV appearances.

“I think this is possibly the only time a Wisbech man has done this,” he said.

“I did my first concert for Sakura City in the Town Hall lobby, which was televised by the local TV station and was show twice a day for five days.

“I then played for graduates in Narita before doing my first concert in Tokyo at the ‘Back in Town’ club.

“From there I was very proud to be headline act at the first Tokyo Banjo Festival which was held in Tokyo Main Dining, in the centre of the city. I was also invited to play in Iida and was given the star treatment there, playing a 40 minute set to a sold out theatre.”

Sean added: “I also had the honour of playing for Harley Davidson Motorcycles (Japan) who wanted to tie American bands in with American motorbikes.

“To be surrounded by so much chrome was great! As well as playing concerts I also recorded with Ken Aoki, one the world’s top banjo players and the album will be released internationally in the latter part of the year on I-tunes.”

He added: “I was invited to return so maybe I am a Wisbech export item!”

Sean Moyses is regarded as one of Europe’s top professional banjo players. He has been playing banjo since he was eleven years old, encouraged by his family who all played music. He mastered the ukulele, mandolin, five-string banjo, plectrum banjo, guitar and ukulele-banjo and as well as playing folk, country, bluegrass and acoustic music, developed a love for jazz and swing music of the 1920’s and 1930’s.

He lived in Germany for 17 years and was a member of Rod Mason’s Hot Five for ten of those. He has guested with such notable bands as The Barrelhouse Jazzband, Papa Bue’s Viking Jazzband, Joe Wulf’s Gentlemen of Swing, The Best of British Jazz Gala, The Aces of Syncopation, The European Top Eight concerts and has often appeared as a soloist in the USA and Japan.

Sean owns an original Vega Vox 4 banjo from his idol “The King of the Banjo” Eddie Peabody and endorses Pietsch Banjos.
