ALL four Fenland towns are to get an improved tourist information centre, but the "hub" will remain in Wisbech, says Fenland District Council.

A review of tourism has concluded that a tourist information centre should be developed in March Town Hall, and in the Chatteris and Whittlesey one-stop shops.

In Wisbech, talks will now explore the possibility of moving the centre to the Octavia Hill Birthplace Museum.

However, should it remain in the one stop shop, "a plan improving the layout should be developed providing a clear demarcation between the two services".

Other proposals, being debated yesterday by the council's overview and scrutiny panel, included:

- Electronic indoor or outdoor touch screens dedicated to tourism

- Direct phone link between all four TICs

- Merging of tourism and culture in Fenland

- Developing the 'Cambridgeshire Fens' as the Fenland 'brand'

- Creating a 'Cambridgeshire Fens' website

- Limiting Fenland Council publications to a yearly A4 tourism book

- Marketing coach visits

Councillors were told that the concerns raised by the presentation of three petitions earlier this year "had been a driver for this review".
