An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of yesterday’s industrial building blaze in Wisbech.

Fire crews remain at the scene in Brigstock Road this morning (June 25) as they continue to dampen down the site.

Around 50 firefighters from across Cambridgeshire attended yesterday after plumes of smoke could be seen across the area at around 11am.

A Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Crews arrived to find a well-developed fire at an industrial building.

“An investigation is now being carried out to establish the cause.

“The fire involved large quantities of wood and was spreading rapidly.

“Wearing breathing apparatus they quickly sectorised the building to stop the fire spread and used hose reels and jets to bring the fire under control.

“Crews remained at the scene throughout the night to dampen down hot spots and keep the area safe.”

Two crews from Wisbech along with one crew from Whittlesey, March, Chatteris, Dogsthorpe, Norfolk (including Kings Lynn, Terrington St Clement and Wymondham) and Lincolnshire (Holbeach) attended the scene initially.

Water carriers from Ramsey and Holbeach were needed to maintain the supply of water to fight the fire.

Aerial appliances from Stanground and Kings Lynn were required to tackle the fire from above.
