A volunteer has won a young person of the year award at a March club for his willingness to help, sense of humour and great sticky toffee pudding.

Ross Usher will have his name added to a board of honour at Young People March.

Manager Jayne Manders said this year’s winner was chosen because he: “Has helped at so many projects such as junior club, Saturday drop-ins, holiday clubs, internet café- working with the older generation, gardening and maintenance and, along with their amazing cooking skills and one fantastic sticky toffee pudding.”

Four years ago The March Lions erected an honours board at Young People March in memory of the late Mary Buckley to honour any young person who volunteers and whose dedication and support benefits the charity more than any other individual over a 12 month period.

The young person not only has their name erected on the honours board but also receives £50.

Jayne said: “As you can imagine it is always very hard to pick one individual out for all their hard work and effort in volunteering at Young People March as we have so many deserving young people who all volunteer weekly.

“Without these incredible young people YPM would not be able to operate on the large scale it does.

“However, with this said one young person whose great sense of humour and wiliness to give even more time and effort to YPM has impressed myself and manager Sarah Brown this year so much the choice was made a little simpler to come to a decision.”
