TOWN councillors have invited Councillor Jan French to become Mayor for the second year running.

Her unanimous re-election came on Monday when the town council met for the first time since elections earlier this month.

Councillor Kit Owen proposed Cllr French to continue in office, describing her as an "acceptable and likeable choice" and praised the manner in which she had led the town for the past year.

Her new deputy is Councillor Trevor Quince who can expect to become Mayor next year.

This year's deputy is Councillor Sylvia Keane who would normally have acceded to the mayoralty but with her husband Bernard expected to become the new chairman of Fenland District Council she will be fully committed for the coming year.

In the past year Cllr French raised £2,175 for local charities which have recently been distributed to eight charities.

In her annual report to councillors she thanked both the town clerk, Clive Lemmon, and his deputy, Les Denzey, for their help. She also thanked her family for their support and encouragement.
