We are happy to report that Poppy, last month's appeal dog, has found a loving home again and will be spending Christmas with her new family rather than looking through the bars of a kennel.

Trying to be just as lucky is Jeeves, a six-year old ginger tabby cat.

Luck hasn't been on his side recently and he is getting desperate. Jeeves was the resident cat in a nursing home that sadly closed in the summer. Everybody else was cared for but poor Jeeves was forgotten.

Ending up here, he has been pining for his freedom ever since. The only thing that brightens up his days is feeding time - and it shows.

He is not too keen on cuddles, at least not from us in the cattery. It's a totally different story though when a male visitor appears; he then goes totally silly and can't get enough fuss. We are hoping a retired couple might take him in or perhaps another nursing home can offer a free armchair.

If you are looking for a new pet, Block Fen is the place to start your search. Our miscellaneous unit is a treasure trove for all the 'smallies' out there, from the usual to the more unexpected.

Turnover is quick, so reporting on one particular animal about 10 days in advance will probably see that one already settled in a home by the time of publication.

Dogs are similarly busy. We just had two litters of puppies in. The best thing to do - check our website or, better still, come and see us.

Our annual Christmas fair is on Sunday, December 9.
