Crime busting is on its way with the relaunch of March Neighbourhood Watch which includes a plan to start the county’s first junior watch.

Residents are invited to get involved with the relaunch at a meeting tonight (Tuesday January 12) from 7 to 9pm at March Fire Station.

Ryan Berridge, secretary for Neighbourhood Watch, said: “My aim is to bring our community together and to make March a safe and enjoyable town to live and work in.

“I also have plans to set up a junior Neighbourhood Watch Scheme in the town, that will be the first in the county, and am currently working on a survey to find out what interest I may have on this.

“The purpose of this meeting is to try and sign up as many new members and coordinators as we can and also to vote for a new chairman and treasurer as the previous ones have either stepped down or moved away.”

The meeting will be split into two parts - the first will include guest speaker, March Inspector Will Davis, who hopes to bring along his sergeant and other police representatives.

The second part comprises the meeting, an introduction to new members of the current scheme, how it is operated and ideas of how they can set up their own scheme.

Neighbourhood Watch began in America in 1964 and came to Britain in 1982 when the first group started in Cheshire.

March Neighbourhood Watch is made up of around 30 coordinators from all corners of the town.

If you would like to become a coordinator, contact March NHW secretary, Ryan Berridge on 07860805843 or email ryan.berridge@hotmial.co.uk.

Further coordinator meeting dates are Tuesday March 8, Tuesday May 10, Tuesday July 12, Tuesday September 13, Tuesday November 15.
