Rising boxing star Jordan Gill has donated some top-quality new equipment to Chatteris Leisure as a “thank you” for its support in his rapidly developing career.

Jordan and his father, Paul, called in at the New Vision Fitness centre on Saturday to hand over two new punch bags and a couple of pairs of boxing gloves.

The 21-year-old featherweight was back in Chatteris for the weekend. He is now based in Sheffield, at the famous Brendan Ingle gym. When he comes home he trains at Chatteris Leisure, which has given him an annual “anytime” membership. His parents are also members.

Since turning professional in 2012, just six days after his 18th birthday, Jordan has a perfect record in the ring, winning 16 fights in a row.

Jordan said: “Boxing is a great sport to get involved in and it’s helped me in all sorts of ways in my life, so I want to promote it and health in general.

“The centre has got all the other top facilities and it’s only right it should have the best boxing equipment as well. It makes me feel better, too - it’s nice to be able to do something for this area.”

Paul added: “We wanted to thank the centre for the support they give Jordan and also to help inspire a lot of other kids. Jordan did a warm down the other day with some of the students at Cromwell and that sort of thing is really important. We want to promote not just boxing but all Fenland sport.”

Jordan had spent the previous week on a training camp in Alicante, Spain, with several other top fighters. They included Kell Brook, the current IBF welterweight world champion, and Kid Galahad, a former British, European and Commonwealth super-bantamweight champion.

Paul said: “Jordan was the baby of the group. He’s only 21 and he’s got a long way to go but hopefully in time he’ll get right up there with them.”

There is no fixed date for his next fight but Jordan is hoping it will be on the undercard of Kell Brook’s world title defence some time in September.
