LIEUTENANT Julia Symons from Wisbech has competed in a hard fight at the three-day Army Indoor Lawn Tennis Championships at Aldershot.

Julia, 26, serving as a nurse with the Royal Logistic Corps, said: "I started playing when I was five years old. It was one of our school sports and I loved it.

"I'm fortunate because the army encourages fitness and sport so I get time off for competitions, plus help with transport and funds. I did a hockey tour of Australia last year.

"My ambition is to play five types of sport at Army level. I've done three already, hockey, cricket and football. Now I need tennis and one other to complete the set."

Julia attended Neale-Wade Community College, March, before joining theArmy in 1996. Her parents Rodger and Carol live in Wisbech.
