Safely delivered to the Somerset Levels! That was message posted on Facebook today as haulier Knowles Transport, of Wimblington, took emergency feed to help West Country farmers.
Knowles joined the Fens rescue mission launched earlier in the week by Chatteris farmer George Munns to help farmers threatened by floods to feed their animals.
Knowles was one of the companies to respond and took a Scania tipper with sugar beet donated by Abbots Ripton Farming Ltd to feed animals affected by the flooding.
“We are doing this free of charge in order to help during these hard times for farmers in the region,” the company posted on its Facebook page.
The Facebook story prompted dozens of responses – including messages of thanks from people in Somerset.
One woman wrote that “it just goes to show the British people look after there own; pity the government don’t do the same”.
Another message said “so kind and thoughtful, thank you”.
A further message told boss Tony Knowles: “You are a credit to our country....Keep on Truckin’...”
And a woman from Frome, Somerset, posted: “Well done and a big thank you. It is getting worse for them in the floods today. They need all the help they can get.”
