POLICE said 12 people, including seven women and five men, were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to kidnap and assault by causing grievous bodily harm during an operation on Wednesday morning.
A sixth man was arrested for the same offences this morning. All 13 remain in police custody at this time.
The warrants were carried out by Norfolk officers at nine separate addresses in the Marshland area, including properties in Walpole St Andrew, Walpole St Peter, St John’s Fen End, Terrington St John, Emneth, and across the Lincolnshire border, at three addresses in Sutton Bridge.
The operation relates to an on-going police investigation into allegations of kidnap and assault dating back to April this year.
A 27-year-old man from Wisbech, arrested at Walpole St Andrew yesterday for obstructing police officers, received a caution for the offence.
A quantity of cannabis plants were seized by officers during a warrant at a property in St John’s Fen End and a 65-year-old man arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis has since been released on bail.
A police spokesman said: “The police action in West Norfolk was part of a planned and targeted police operation linked to an on-going investigation. There is considered to be no threat to the wider community.”
