A LAND Rover stolen from Chatteris has been found stripped of all its parts in Paston, Peterborough - one of five such vehicles stolen across Cambridgeshire in the past two months.

Now police are urging Land Rover owners to review the security of their vehicles following the spate of thefts.

In the past two months five Land Rovers have been stolen from Sawtry, St Ives, Old Weston, Chatteris and Peterborough.

Of those stolen, two have been recovered. The first, which was stolen on Thursday, November 2 from Chatteris, was found in Paston stripped of its parts. The second, which was stolen from Peterborough on Friday, September 15, was recovered in Sutton St Edmunds near Wisbech where it had been set alight.

Trevor Bracken, community safety manager based in March, said: "We have seen a noticeable increase in thefts of Land Rovers in the last two months and I would urge all owners to review the security of their vehicle.

"We believe these vehicles may be being stolen for their parts and investigations are underway to trace those responsible."

Of the five Land Rovers stolen, three were Defender 90 models, one was a Freelander and one a 110 model.

Mr Bracken added: "I would advise people to fit alarms and immobilisers to their vehicles and use a steering lock to reduce the risk of becoming the victim of a vehicle thief."
