High Street, March, was blocked on Wednesday (June 13) outside of the Oliver Cromwell hotel after a two vehicle collision that left the 92-year-old passenger of one car and the driver of the other both badly shaken.
The impact was such that one of the cars, a Lexus, overturned but with police and bystanders quickly on the scene the 76-year-old driver was pulled free.
A police officer and other bystanders moved swiftly to turn the car back onto its correct side.
A spokesman for East of England Ambulance said: “We received a call at 1.31pm to reports of a road traffic incident in High Street, March.
“The East of England Ambulance Service Trust dispatched an ambulance and rapid response vehicle to the scene where they treated two patients.
“One patient was discharged at the scene the other was taken to Peterborough Hospital.”
The other car, a Volkswagen, was parked outside Amical Veterinary Centre at the time.
A Cambridgeshire Police spokesman said: “We were called at 1.30pm with reports of a collision involving two cars in the High Street, March.
“One of the vehicles has overturned and the driver was initially trapped.
“Officers attended the scene, along with representatives from the Ambulance Service. Details of injuries are unclear at this stage.”
The woman driver said her 92-year-old passenger, who was waiting for the driver to come out of Amical, was badly shaken. She is being treated by paramedics.
A spokesman for Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue said: “On Wednesday at 1.36pm, one crew from March and one crew from Wisbech were called to a road traffic collision on High Street, March.
“Crews arrived to find a collision involving two vehicles with one person trapped. Firefighters used specialist equipment to stabilise the vehicle and assist with first aid.
“Both crews returned to their stations by 2.45pm.”
The Lexus driver received cuts and abrasions and was bruised but told emergency services workers he was otherwise ok.
Cambs Fire and Rescue service arrived to ensure no oil escaped from the Lexus and that the tyres didn’t smoulder.
