Five leylandii trees bordering a Grade II listed building in East Cambs can be felled and nine others severely lopped, says the district council.
The council has agreed to a request from Alexander Innes of Hillrow, Haddenham, who said the 14 trees leading six feet from the rear of his home “have grown to a height of 40 feet.
“Five of these trees stand close to the back kitchen wall and conservatory of our house,” he told East Cambs planners.
We are concerned that these trees standing on clay soil could undermine the footings of the house.”
Mr Innes said two large branches came down in the Christmas storm “taking out part of the boundary fence and landing on the rear cat slide roof of the property.”
He said he was concerned that roots from five trees in particular may be travelling underneath his home.
The council agreed to allow five to be felled but told him the remaining nine could only be felled to a height of 8-10 feet and not to four feet as he hoped. He had warned these too “could threaten the house and adjoining conservatory”.
Planners have told him the work should be carried out by a professional surgeon.
