WORK could start this spring on a new major link road in March to reduce traffic and heavy lorries from using the town centre.
Cambridgeshire County Council and Network Rail have concluded detailed negotiations on the new road which will link Melbourne Avenue off the Hostmoor Avenue industrial area to Hundred Road.
The scheme, which could start by the end of March, will include a new roundabout on Hundred Road and a new single carriageway with pedestrian path alongside.
It will serve the Whitemoor marshalling yards as well as improving access to the industrial estates in and around the Hostmoor and Hundred Road area.
This will take lorries and other vehicles away from March town centre to more suitable roads - reducing congestion and improving safety.
Work is set to take around 21 weeks.
